Chongqing is a marvelous city to explore.
We decided to spend our holidays differently this time, renting an RV and cruising on the Yangtze River. Taking the flight from Shanghai to Chongqing was the easy part. The automated check-in did not want to cooperate with the foreign passport, so we had to queue with the others.
We took a taxi to the RV2GO, but the first place it took us was the sales place, not the rental. A Quick look in the GPS navigation showed the rental place was only one km away, so we decided to walk there.
This place was quite big with many RVs waiting for rental. The worker went through the rental contract and explained all the items to us clearly. No problem with foreigners renting, but need to know that renting through the app is not possible with a passport. If you don’t have a Chinese ID, you need to visit the rental.
This time we got the high-end Maxus RV90. Unfortunately, all RV2GO rentals are always without rear/side extensions like the one we rented when we drove to Xian. Anyway, the RV was great to drive and had everything we needed for this shorter trip. The biggest issue was the limited battery capacity (even if it had solar panels). The diesel heater would only run 4-5 hours with it. You needed to wake up in the night to start the car if no electricity was available.

In Chongqing, parking is predominantly available in underground facilities. Due to the height restrictions of these underground parking areas and following RV2GO’s recommendation, we chose this location for overnight parking.
Great place as the city center and Hongya Cave Complex is in walking distance and a small convenient store within 10m from the RV. Only thing is it was beside the big KTV (karaoke) and people still got out at 4 pm shouting and drinking. Did not bother so much but just annoying.

We ate, tasted, and ate some more—because when it comes to local cuisine, we believe in experiencing it to the fullest! Tourist hot spots often boast an incredible selection of authentic local snacks and delicacies, and we make it a point to sample as many as possible.
From savory street food to sweet treats, every bite was a delight. If I had to describe it in one word? Delicious.

Liziba Station: Chongqing’s Monorail Marvel Through a Residential Building
We had some time to spend and I really wanted to see the most famous train station in China.
For those eager to experience this unique sight, Liziba Station is accessible via Line 2 of the Chongqing Rail Transit. To fully appreciate the ‘train through building’ phenomenon, it’s recommended to disembark at the station and proceed to the ground level. From there, cross the street to the designated viewing platform, which offers an optimal vantage point for observing and photographing the train as it traverses the building.
