Our first time renting an RV in China
This is my first time renting an RV in China and heading to Wuzhen International Camping. There are challenges in renting an RV and driving it on the roads in China for the first time. After thinking it’s not bad at all, we have no problem. Highway traffic in China is relatively safe during the day, but I avoid driving at night. Especially avoid heavy trucks. We don’t understand that, according to traffic regulations, all slower trucks shouldn’t be driven in the right lane. This is one of the biggest problems; overtaking back and forth on the road is dangerous. What happens? First time renting an RV in China?
Check out the revisit post of the Wuzhen International Camping in May 2024. Huge changes and getting to the correct direction of being a great campground. Also, the name has changed to Leqi Wuzhen Vacation Camp.
This is the first time renting an RV in China from Tiande RV
Unfortunately, this company is not trustworthy. We paid a “membership” fee of 5000CNY, which included five days of rental. I only used it for three days and will consider using it in the future. Some changes since then are that this particular Tiande no longer exists, and we lost two days of rent.
Considering this is my first time renting an RV in China, let’s see what it’s like. I took a weekend trip to Wuzhen International Car Campground. I have never driven a car this size in China, so I must be extra careful. The height limit is 3.2 meters. Later, I learned that Tiande RV was not trustworthy.

Weekend trip to Wuwuzhen International Car Campground begins
Since the weekend trip to Wuzhen International Car Campground started very late and traffic on the highway was more or less treacherous on rainy days, we decided to spend the night at a service station. Located near Wuzhen City
First, stop at a gas station to refill your meal. The expressway service area is a standard local gas station. It’s a huge place, but it was deserted due to the time of day. This is where highway services fall short. Western-style stations are usually packed with lots of snacks, coffee, etc.
However, our next trip to Nanjing will take you to experience China’s best road service centre.
Arrived at the empty and dark camping area
When we arrived at the campsite, we were very late. The camp administrator opened the gate for us on 2020/08/18 and allowed us free entry.
No green health code
They didn’t check our IDs that night.
No nucleic acid test
No one at the campsite 🙂
My wife was at the door trying to open it. This was our first trip and the first campground we visited in China, and our impression of it was not good. There were no lights, inside or outside. What I saw through the gate was also very muddy, and I feared being trapped there. Think about the first time the gates were locked, soulless camping, complete darkness, and no idea what was happening. It was locked, but we were told how to open it. There is no staff available to help at all. Only our car headlights and my flashlight showed some light. total darkness
Arrival to campsite
The gate was locked, and the camp was completely dark. It was almost scary because it was pitch black. I saw muddy tracks through the gate and immediately worried about getting stuck.
My wife was at the door trying to open it. This was our first trip and the first campground we visited in China, and our impression of it was not good.
After some thought, we found a concrete pad to park on. Electricity and water are available, but our cable is only 10A, which doesn’t fit the 16A on the pole. This also reminds us that many things in the country do not follow specific regulations. I noticed that there is another type of 16A socket. Also, for example, I’ve seen many versions of the Chinese tow hook with different ball sizes, or it could be some mooring hook. Chinese standard socket
After I woke my wife after the lovely welcome, no one was available at camp. We were the only people in the whole place.
What activities are available?
There is very little construction work going on in the area. It looks like an adventure for kids. We found very narrow railway tracks in the area. Later, we learned it was a mini train track. The administrators offered us a free ride to make up for the night before with a bucket of clean water and cookies 🙂 They were very friendly and nice and satisfied our curiosity well. Nearby is an area where you can rent stationary campervans as hotel rooms.
Mud racing would have been fun, but not outside of the holidays. So we can only test the small train this time. If anyone visits this place in the future, please let me hear the experience if the equipment is available.
