You cannot access the Guomen Scenic Spot without a Chinese ID
While fixing the towing hitch of the car we had the time to pay a visit to the China-Russian border at the Sino-Russian Inter-Trade Tourist Area. Unfortunately without a Chinese ID, you cannot access the Guomen Scenic Spot. So for me and the kids, we only had the chance to stay at the Sino-Russian Inter-Trade Tourist Area. Luckily there was shopping mall, McDonalds and many other things to see in the area.
The Guomen Scenic Spot
The Guomen Scenic Spot is located in Manzhouli, a bustling border city in Inner Mongolia, China. Known for its vibrant culture and strategic location, Manzhouli serves as the largest land port between China and Russia. The scenic spot itself is home to the world’s largest border gate structure, standing at an impressive height of 43 meters. Adorned with traditional Chinese and Russian architectural elements, the structure symbolizes the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Key Attractions:
- The Border Gate: The towering Guomen Gate is the centrepiece of the scenic spot, marking the official boundary between China and Russia. Visitors can ascend the gate for panoramic views of the border, the Trans-Siberian Railway, and the vast steppe landscape that stretches endlessly in both directions.
- Cultural Exhibits: The scenic area houses exhibitions that delve into the history of Sino-Russian relations, highlighting trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchanges over the centuries. The exhibits also feature artefacts, photographs, and artworks that showcase the intertwined histories of the two nations.
- The Friendship Bridge: This symbolic bridge connects China and Russia, emphasizing the long-standing partnership and mutual understanding between the two nations. Walking along the bridge offers a profound sense of standing at the crossroads of two distinct cultures.
SINO-RUSSIAN Cross-Border Experience
The SINO-RUSSIAN Cross-Border zone (Manchuria China & Russia Trade Area) is not just a political boundary; it is a vibrant hub of commerce, culture, and tourism. This area thrives on cross-border trade, with bustling markets offering Russian crafts, vodka, chocolates, and Chinese silk and tea, creating a lively exchange of goods and traditions.
What to Explore:
- Trans-Siberian Railway Connection: Witness the legendary railway line that serves as a lifeline for trade and tourism between the two nations. Visitors can even embark on cross-border train journeys to experience both cultures seamlessly.
- Cuisine Fusion: The area is a culinary paradise where you can savour a unique blend of Chinese and Russian flavours. From authentic Russian borscht and dumplings to traditional Inner Mongolian lamb dishes, the food scene is a highlight of any visit.
- Cultural Performances: Don’t miss the folk performances that showcase the heritage of both nations. Traditional Russian dances and Inner Mongolian throat singing bring the region’s rich culture to life.
